Community Outreach for Research and Education (CORE)

The Center has an active Community Outreach for Research and Education (CORE). The mission of CORE is to promote agricultural health and safety practices to reduce and prevent occupational illnesses and injuries among agricultural populations. This is achieved by linking researchers from the Western Center for Agricultural Health and Safety with community partners to exchange knowledge and resources.

Our long term goals are to facilitate two-way communication with the general public, agricultural community, Center researchers, and their study populations to address health and safety needs; and to facilitate the transfer of the Center's research findings, technologies and information into practice (Research to Practice, "r2p").

The objectives supporting the CORE goals and mission are to

  • Exchange knowledge and resources with the agricultural community, stakeholders, and related groups;
  • Serve as the liaison between the Center and agricultural community partners surch as governmental agencies, community organizations, regional producer organizations and others;
  • Engage community and study populations in the research process;
  • Translate the Center's research findings into information that can be used by educators, community, and study populations;
  • Disseminate scientific information to professionals and policymakers;
  • Provide an ongoing list of health & safety resources useful to the agricultural community; and
  • Partner with educators to develop and evaluate training programs and educational materials.
