| TWIC non-compliance restrictions lifted for three Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA) facilities |

MIAMI - Coast Guard Sector Miami rescinded the last of three Captain of the Port Orders on Thursday for three port facilities previously ordered to suspend Maritime Transportation Security Act related operations. During follow-up inspections, Coast Guard field teams determined Bernuth Marine Shipping and the Port of Miami River Terminal were cleared to resume MTSA operations on Wednesday and the 5th Street Terminal was cleared to resume MSTA operations Thursday. The three terminals failed to meet newly implemented federal regulations Tuesday requiring certain workers at port facilities to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card. The Coast Guard worked with the three non-compliant facilities to gain TWIC compliance and resume normal operations. In accordance with the requirements of the MTSA and the Security and Accountability for Every Port Act (SAFE Port Act), the TWIC serves as an identification card for all personnel requiring unescorted access to secure areas of MTSA regulated facilities. To obtain a TWIC, an individual must successfully pass a security threat assessment conducted by the Transportation Security Administration.
