Coast Guard now involved in search for fleeing Indiana pilot

Posted by Carol Robinson -- Birmingham News January 13, 2009 9:48 AM

The search for an Indiana pilot who parachuted from his plane in Alabama before it later crashed in Florida has been turned over to the U.S. Coast Guard in Mobile, said Paul Daymond, Birmingham FBI spokesman.

Authorities also said the U.S Attorney's Office in Pensacola is now handling the investigation into the disappearance of Marcus Schrenker, a 38-year-old businessman facing mounting legal, personal and financial trouble.

Earlier this morning, the U.S. Marshals office said Schrenker rented a storage unit in Harpersville on Saturday and returned there on Monday where he took off with a motorcycle and goods he had placed there.

Earlier Birmingham News reports on Marcus Schrenker

In another development on Monday, a Hamilton County, Ind. judge froze the assets of Schrenker and his companies. at the request of the Indiana Securities Division, said Jim Gavin a spokesman for the Indiana Secretary of State.

Heritage Wealth Management, Heritage Insurance Services and Icon Wealth Management are being investigated by the Securities Division, Gavin said.

As stupid as this guy is, he will be found real quick.

The Coast Guard ????? I was reading he fled on a motorcycle. Why would the Coast Guard be looking for him ??? If he would have been smart he would have crashed his plane in the ocean...that way it may or may not have been found and it would have been easier to say he perished in the plane crash.

He probably meant for the plane to crash in the Gulf. He's in Mexico now.

The COAST GUARD to the rescue !

LOL

The guy is on dry land in Mexico and the coast guard is looking for him !

LOL

This guy is smart enough to never be caught if he doesnt want to be,

Still, some things he did probably made things tougher on him.

The fake radio calls for example. But he was probably trying to get the insurance money for his kids since he is going to be in Mexico for the rest of his life.

I doubt :"the dog" is going after a white collar ciminal with no bond or reward.

Mexico?

You mean, he's hiding in Hoover?

Guadalahoover!

This guy parachuted out of a plane, at night, within a very short distance of where he had intended and, so far, has made a clean get away. Not to mention that he was smart enough or crafty enough to make millions at a young age.

He is anything but dumb.

The coast guard is looking for him because of all the flash flooding in this area...ha!!

Posted by ckss on 01/13/09 at 10:36AM

And because he did say there was a canoe accident! hehehee...

Okay, he rented a storage unit on Saturday and returned on Monday to get the motorcyle. Where did the motorcyle come from? In that area it would be easy to track down where he bought it or did somebody provide it to him? It said "other gear"-what else had he bought to hide out? I ride that road alot but can't think if there is a Walmart, etc in
that area. Where did all this stuff come from and who took him to get it?

He owns a 20-something foot Rinker along with his other toys apparently. Would make sense that he might park it somewhere near the Gulf and set off after the motorcycle ride.

I still say this guy will be caught real soon.

Posted by 35Al on 01/13/09 at 11:28AM

Why will he be caught soon ?

They cannot even catch murderers. This guy did not kill anybody.

He is a financial crook whose life was falling apart.

He bailed and tried to secure insurance money for his kids.

The sad thing is even if he would have faced up to the law, chances are he would not have gotten more than 6-24 months.

The law is VERY weak on white collar crime. TOO weak if you ask me.

But, he may have been more worried about one of his victims than the law.

I say he will not be caught anytime soon.

He probably has plenty of money, has ditched the bike for a car and his in Mexico by now.

If he has special forces training, they will not catch him. Certainly not the coast guard ! LOL

Agreed 35AI, he's stayng one step ahead of them. The motorcycle is old news already and he's certainly switched vehicles OR already arrived at his safe spot.

The Coast Guard give me a break. They can't keep inner tube riding Cubans from entering the U.S.

Posted by bhambulldog on 01/13/09 at 12:23PM

this guy is so smart, he has out smarted himself. why give a mayday signal? the navy and the FAA knew something was fishy even before the plane crashed. why did he approach a police officer? if he had not done those two things, the cops might never have known he was in Hapersville.

Posted by bhambulldog on 01/13/09 at 12:27PM

the motorcycle was found in Mobile. they must know that he was or is on board a boat.

Posted by bhambulldog on 01/13/09 at 12:38PM

the shed where the getaway bike was stored is managed by the wife of an Hapersville cop.
