The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) national Laboratory. It is managed and operated for DOE by the Alliance for Sustainable Energy, LLC (Alliance). Jim Spigarelli of Midwest Research Institute acts as Alliance Chair and Jeffrey Wadsworth of Battelle acts as Vice Chair.

The NREL director is Dan Arvizu; he is also president of the Alliance. Arvizu oversees four directorates: Outreach, Planning and Analysis; Science and Technology; Laboratory Operations; and, Commercialization and Deployment.

Also reporting to Arvizu are: internal audit managed by Connie Johnson; General Counsel Steve Silbergleid; and, Laboratory Ombuds Carolyn Noorbakhsh.

The Outreach, Planning and Analysis directorate is managed by Senior Vice President Bobi Garrett. She oversees the Energy Analysis Office, managed by Doug Arent; the Strategic Planning Office, managed by Sue Hock; Communications & External Affairs, managed by Bob Noun; and, the Joint Institute for Strategic Energy Analysis.

Executive Director Sue Hock oversees the Laboratory Development Office, managed by Eric Manuel and the Program & Strategic Decision Support Office, managed by Sue Hock (acting). Executive Director Bob Noun oversees the Pubic Affairs Office, managed by Kerry Masson and the Technical Communications Office, managed by David Warner. Gian Porro, Charlie Visser and Ron Benioff are laboratory program managers. Neil Snyder is the executive director of the Systems Engineering & Program Integration office.

The Science & Technology directorate is managed by Deputy Laboratory Director Robert McGrath. He oversees Renewable Electricity & End Use Systems, managed by Associate Laboratory Director Robert Hawsey; Renewable Fuels & Vehicle Systems, managed by Associate Laboratory Director Dale Gardner; and Energy Sciences, managed by Associate Laboratory Director Ray Stults. Art Nozik serves as senior research fellow and the Research Fellows Council reports to McGrath. Lawrence Kazmerski is the S&T Partnerships executive director.

Associate Laboratory Director for Renewable Electricity & End Use Systems Robert Hawsey oversees the National Center for Photovoltaics, managed by Roland Hulstrom (acting); the Electricity, Resources & Building Systems Integration, managed by David Mooney; and, the National Wind Technology Center, managed by Mike Robinson (acting). Tim Coutts, David Ginley and Robert Thresher serve as research fellows. Roland Hulstrom (solar), Brian Smith (wind and hydropower), Ron Judkoff (buildings) and Dick DeBlasio (electricity) are laboratory program managers.

Associate Laboratory Director for Renewable Fuels & Vehicle Systems Dale Gardner oversees the National Bioenergy Center, managed by Mike Cleary; Hydrogen Technologies & Systems, managed by Robert Remick; and, Transportation Technologies & Systems, managed by Barb Goodman. Helena Chum serves as research fellow. Tom Foust (biomass), George Sverdrup (hydrogen) and Terry Penny (vehicles) are laboratory program managers.

Associate Laboratory Director for Energy Sciences Ray Stults oversees Chemical & Biosciences, managed by James Brainard and Materials & Computational Science, managed by Steve Hammond. Garry Rumbles, Mike Seibert, John Turner, and Alex Zunger serve as research fellows.

The Laboratory Operations directorate is managed by Deputy Laboratory Director and Chief Operating Officer Bill Glover. He oversees the following seven offices: Finance, managed by Barb Stokes; Environment, Health, Safety, Security & Quality, managed by Joe Gantos; Contracts & Business Services, managed by Kristin Bombeck; Information Services, managed by Jill Deem; Infrastructure & Campus Development, managed by Drew Detamore; Human Resources, managed by Olivia Killough; and Site Operations, managed by Tim Peele. Jessie Harris manages Washington Operations.

The Commercialization & Deployment directorate is managed by Senior Vice President Casey Porto. She oversees Commercialization & Technology Transfer, managed by Vice President William Farris; and, Deployment & Industrial Partnerships, managed by Vice President Mike Pacheco. Robert Westby (FEMP) and Ron Benioff (WIP, acting) are laboratory program managers.

William Farris oversees Technology Transfer, managed by Tom Williams; and, Commercialization & Enterprise Development, managed by William Farris (acting). Mike Pacheco oversees Integrated Deployment, managed by Mary Werner; and, Partnership Development, managed by Steve Gorin.
