Interface, Inc. is a recognized leader in the worldwide commercial interiors market, offering modular and broadloom floorcoverings, interior fabrics, services and specialty products. Interface endorses sustainable business practices and strives to create a more sustainable model for industry. As a result of Interface's commitment to sustainability, the company has partnered with American Forests to offset the emissions from all business related air travel through the Global ReLeaf Program. Since 2001 Interface, Inc. has sponsored the planting of more than 39,354 trees in the Texas Lower Rio Grande Region, the Talladega National Forest Longleaf Pine Restoration Project and the California Mohave Desert Mountain Communities to offset air travel.
Interface associates also have the option of participating in a program to offset the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions associated with their commute 'to and from work.' The Cool Co2mmute™ program allows associates to purchase trees to be planted by American Forests, to offset the CO2 emissions associated with the fuel they consume. In 2004, Interface added a new element to their employee service recognition program, providing associates with the option of having trees planted to celebrate their years of service with the company, in lieu of traditional service awards like watches, pen sets and plaques. Since 2003, Interface has purchased 18,227 trees in the Texas Lower Rio Grande Region and the Forest Lawn Scout Reservation near Lake Arrowhead, CA and the Nature Conservancy’s Emiquon Preserve in Illinois for the Cool Co2mmute and Employee Recognition programs, as well as for customer mill visits/recognition programs and a Cool Carpet™ specifier recognition program.
In June 2006, 21,750 trees were purchased by the Interface companies to offset the printing of shopping bags for Interface’s booths at the 2006 NeoCon World’s Trade Fair as well as a major trade event in Asia-Pacific.
These initiatives are just a few of many that Interface is engaged in. For more information on Interface's journey to sustainability please view their online sustainability report:
