Learn how to raise and care for chickens and other poultry in an urban environment. Taught by Paul Glanowski and Cooper Funk, graduates of the Apprenticeship program and the founders of "Urban Eggs," this workshop will cover the basics of tending small flocks in town, including coop design, breeds, and predator control.$20 for members of the Friends of the UCSC Farm & Garden; $25 general public. APRIL 2009 Spring Break Day Camp Children ages 7 - 11 are invited to join us on the farm for spring gardening, cooking, and crafts. We'll be preparing food fresh from the farm. Gardening activities will include seed sowing for home gardens, composting, and harvesting. Garden-based crafts and games will round out this exciting new week of camp. Pre-registration required. baking great bread. This hands-on workshop will cover ingredients,
sourdough starters, shaping loaves, baking times, and other tips. $20
for Friends' members, $25 general public. MAY 2009 Spring Plant Sale The biggest and best collection of organically grown flower,
herb and vegetable starts, perennials, roses, grasses, and other
landscape plants available in the region. Proceeds support the
Apprenticeship in Ecological Horticulture. Friends' memberships and
renewals are available on Saturday morning, beginning at 8:30 am, and

take place at the Market Cart, located at the corner of Bay and High
streets (base of campus) beginning in early June. The Market Cart is
open Tuesdays and Fridays from 12 noon to 6 pm through October. Call

Farm Save the date now! You don’t want to miss our annual Farm celebration, as we host our biggest "open house" of the year, including our third "Food for Thought" forum on local food issues. Great music, food, apple tasting, an apple pie bake-off, garden talks, hay rides, kids’ events, tours, displays by local farmers, chefs, and community groups make this a great event for adults and kids.
