Welcome to the NeRHA!

Rural health emerged in the 1990's as an identifiable field of activity focusing on improving the health status and meeting the specific health needs of people living in non-metropolitan areas. As rural advocates, we have succeeded in placing our interests on the national policy agenda in recent years and have achieved a new level of success in policy enactments.

Knowing that quality health care is and will continue to be available when it is needed is an assurance that many Americans take for granted. Unfortunately, this assurance does not exist in many of our nation's rural areas and is in danger of being lost in many others. Key rural issues such as workforce shortages, EMS, quality improvement, transportation, access to care, funding, training and education and the uninsured and underinsured still need adequate solutions that will benefit rural areas of our country.

NEBRASKA RURAL HEALTH ASSOCIATION
Rural health matters because of the valuable lessons to be learned from the many innovative solutions that have arisen in response to the problems of rural health in America. Our vision for NeRHA is for even stronger rural and regional representation in setting rural health policy. We collectively continue to press for appropriate health infrastructure, improved access and economic opportunities for rural and frontier communities. Our rural areas greatly contribute to the livelihood of all Americans. Several of our primarily rural industries are among the greatest contributors to America's economy. In our highly mobile society, anyone from anywhere can find themselves in need of health care through our rural health care system. There is no doubt that having quality health care in rural America is everyone's concern.

The NeRHA membership is vital to this effort and many other efforts to fulfill the NeRHA mission of preserving and enhancing the health of rural Nebraska.
