Research and Demonstration Farm

1525 Mills Lane
Frankfort, KY 40601

The 205-acre KSU Research and Demonstration Farm, located in southern Franklin County, is the home to numerous research projects, including Aquaculture, Apiculture, Horticulture, and Entomology. Integrating these diverse projects on a small farm creates an environment that requires compatibility and sustainability. Approximately 40 acres are available for vegetables, eight of which are certified for organic crops. There is a 12-acre orchard for tree fruit and small fruit production. The remainder of the farm is beef cattle, sheep, and goats. Additional research is conducted in the greenhouse, the barn, and the staff office building. The Research and Demonstration Farm has become a model for small farmers to emulate to produce crops and livestock with each enterprise supporting the others. Every "Third Thursday" of each month Sustainable Agriculture Workshops are held at the farm. This format has been adopted in other states and has become a major networking and informative program in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
