The poultry industry and the U.S. government take Asian avian influenza very seriously. Security on poultry farms is very tight. Birds are kept indoors so they will not mix with wild birds. Strict procedures are in place to keep the virus from being tracked into the birds’ living space. Protection of the flocks is the highest priority of poultry farmers. The federal government is also monitoring the migratory birds that may carry avian influenza. If it is found in wild birds, poultry producers will take additional precautions.
