Forty faculty, thirty professionals, and thirty technical/clerical staff are involved in Agriculture and Landscape. The program itself has space in part of one building, the West Experiment Station. Operating funds are obtained from Extension Agriculture and Landscape and the Experiment Station.

It is the mission of the Center for Agriculture to enhance the economy and environment of Massachusetts by providing knowledge to agricultural and non-agricultural communities through research, education, and outreach, enabling development of ecologically and economically sustainable and socially responsible agricultural and horticultural management systems.

The plan to support this mission is built around four areas.

  • Economic viability. Provide research-based information and shared knowledge to enhance the management of our agricultural and horticultural resources.
  • Environmental sustainability. Assist plant and animal producers and managers in protecting the local environment and natural resource base for the long term.
  • Community support. Enhance public understanding of the vital nature of agriculture/horticulture and increase active support for this incomparable resource that provides for the basic and vital needs of the people of the Commonwealth.
  • Adequate capacity. Build the organizational capacity of the University of Massachusetts agricultural programs to help meet food and environmental needs of our citizens into the 21st century.
