Educational Talent Search

Educational Talent Search identifies and assists individuals from diverse backgrounds who have the potential to succeed in higher education. The primary goal of Talent Search is to increase the number of youth who complete high school and enroll in a college or university.

Educational Talent Search

  • is funded by the United States Department of Education
  • is sponsored by Kentucky State University and
  • serves young people in grades six through twelve. Educational Talent Search will serve 600 students in 16 middle and high schools located in the following counties:
    • Washington
    • Nelson
    • Franklin
    • Carroll
    • Henry
  • Services are provided in four major areas:
    • educational
    • personal
    • career
    • financial
  • Participants will meet with ETS counselors regularly in an informal workshop-type setting that may include topics such as:
    • improving study habits
    • time management
    • conflict resolution
    • improving self-esteem
    • career exploration
  • As students move into high school, participants will also receive information about topic such as:
    • college admissions requirements
    • scholarships
    • student financial aid programs
    • test preparation

In addition, ETS counselors can help PARENTS understand the college preparation, application, and enrollment process. Although income is not the only decisive factor by which all applicants are accepted into the program, this early intervention program especially helps people from low-income families(where neither parent graduated from college) to better understand their educational opportunities and options.

To apply to the program, see your school guidance counselor to pick up an application or contact our office at Kentucky State University, 360 Academic Services Building, Frankfort, Kentucky, 40601, phone 502.597.5787 or email ets@kysu.edu.
