International Programs

Although many of our research and education efforts focus on local systems, the Center has a long history of work in the international arena. Scientists and students from around the world travel to the Center to conduct research, receive graduate and post-graduate training, and take part in agroecology workshops. Other international students participate in the six-month apprenticeship training course with the goal of applying what they learn in their home countries. Many UCSC graduate students working with Center faculty affiliates conduct their dissertation work on international agriculture systems, including traditional systems with a long history of sustainable practices. In addition, the Center offers special tours for international visitors.

The Center's staff and affiliated faculty also take their expertise abroad, training farmers and extension personnel in the techniques of agroecology and organic farming, and lecturing on social issues in sustainable agriculture. Center members have taught courses and given lectures in Central and South America, Palestine, American Samoa, Australia, China, Taiwan, and other international sites.
