JOIN ASAN
TODAY!
Now you can officially join our efforts to support small farmers,
and protect local communities, our farmland and our environment!
Because of the encouragement and support of people like you, the
Alabama Sustainable Agriculture Network has made great progress over
the past seven years.
ASAN is --
. .. making the
public more aware of the vital issues we address and more supportive
of our goals,
. . . helping
new and conventional farmers adopt sustainable practices,
. . . helping
develop markets for sustainable farmers,
. . . and
helping Alabama’s land-grant universities and agricultural agencies
see the need for more active support of sustainable farming and
small family farms.
By becoming a
member, you can demonstrate even more support for the work we are
doing. We have received some grants in the past few years that have
helped us build our momentum, but we can and will do more, much more
– with the help of people like you all across the state of Alabama
and beyond who understand how important a truly sustainable
agriculture is for ourselves, our children, and our children’s
children.
What have we done lately?
-
Hosted
farm
field days throughout the state highlighting innovative
production and marketing practices. We also work with other
groups to develop conferences and workshops with a focus on
small farmers and sustainable agriculture.
-
Published
eight newsletters that have gone out to over 700 farms, offices
and homes.
-
Provided
regularly-updated information on our website and in regular
emails
on programs and workshops happening around the state and beyond,
a locator for farmers markets, CSAs and other farms near you,
and links to other resources. Check back– we are constantly
updating and expanding the site!
-
Created a
mentoring program to help support new farmers by linking them
with experienced ones.
-
Worked with
a number of other organizations throughout the region to improve
communication and access to information for farmers, consumers,
and ag educators.
-
Published an
Alabama Farms Resource Guide with sources of published
information, human resources and equipment and supplies for
small farmers.
-
Expanded efforts to connect farmers and eaters and to reinforce
the efforts of other organizations in the state with similar
goals, including community gardens, farmer cooperatives and
markets, youth education programs, and demonstration farms.
