Internships and Volunteer Opportunities

Internships and volunteer opportunities are available with ASAN and our partner organizations, including community gardens, working farms, marketing networks and other groups. An internship is a great opportunity to learn about farming and local foods and to meet members of the southeast’s sustainable agriculture community at workshops and on local farms. Stipends and academic credit may be available.

Looking for an internship or volunteer position? We hope to have individual opportunities posted soon with all the essential contact information. Until then, please contact Karen Wynne at 256-520-2400 or info@asanonline.org.

Looking for an intern, volunteer, or apprentice? Please fill out our intern request form. ASAN now has a limited amount of resources and funding to sponsor volunteers and interns for your farm, organization or business.

ASAN can always use volunteers. Here are some of the projects we are looking for people to work on:

Agricultural Policy: work with the state small farms and sustainable agriculture task force to identify potential programs and projects to improve small farm businesses, food security, and conservation.

Business Planning: help with the development of education materials and outreach for farm and small business planning.

Communications: assist with ASAN’s publicity and outreach, including our newsletter, website, and press releases. Interview farmers and community members for newsletter articles and sustainable farmer profiles.

Consumer Outreach: develop educational materials and outreach programs for Alabama consumers on nutrition, food preparation, and how to access fresh local foods.

Marketing: help with developing marketing plans, creating opportunities for value-added products, and assisting local farmers markets and cooperatives.

Training: assist in the development of workshops and conferences on sustainable agriculture, food security, and community development.

Create Your Own Internship: is there something you’d like to do that’s not listed above? Let us know - your suggestions are always welcome.
