As of the April 2008 elections the APS has 975 members. There are 809 Resident members (citizens or residents of the United States) and 166 International members (formerly called "Foreign" members) representing more than two dozen countries.

The APS is an honorary society that elects new members to their ranks each year in April. Nominations for membership can only be made by Resident members of the APS.
