1930s
Dorothy M. Boggess ’39, of Washington, D.C., has written the book I Wish You Were Here, published by Gray Point Press. Her recent book expands on the theme of her first book, Medley of Travels, which covers Boggess’ more than 40 years of travel.
1970s
Deborah A. Hearn Smith ’70, of Indianapolis, Ind., has been appointed executive director of the Girl Scouts of Hoosier Capital Council. She had served 32 years with the organization before her appointment. The council annually serves nearly 26,000 girls throughout seven-and-a-half counties in central Indiana. Smith also received a master’s degree from Indiana Wesleyan University.
Charles F. Little Jr. ‘71, a musician and teacher living in Lexington, Ky., has been selected as this year’s YMCA Black Achievers Community Achiever of the Year. Little started a program with the Central Kentucky Youth Orchestra that offers free lessons to children who can’t afford them. Since 1991, he has produced Encore, a program on Lexington Insight Cable Channel 13 which showcases young talent. He teaches part time at the Academy at Lexington and conducts clinics for gospel music. Little retired from Fayette County schools after teaching for more than 29 years at Lexington Junior High School and later at Lexington Traditional Magnet School.
Portia Morgan ‘72, head of the social studies department at John F. Kennedy High School in Cleveland, Ohio, has been named co-director of the Kenyon Academic Partnership summer program. KAP allows 25 secondary schools in northern and central Ohio to offer various Kenyon College courses, enabling students to earn advanced college placement and credit before leaving high school. The KAP summer program, held each year at Kenyon, introduces students from Cleveland and Columbus to life on a college campus.
Dr. Katrina Jordan ‘74, director of the Career Planning and Placement Center at
Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio, has been elected to the board of the Midwest Association of Colleges and Employees. She will serve as secretary to the 2003-04 executive board and its assembly representatives. The association’s mission is to maximize the career potential for college-educated adults through the fostering of employer/college and university relationships. It also promotes professional and ethical standards of conduct and provides development opportunities for its members. At one time, Jordan was a counselor and job developer at Kentucky State University. She earned her doctoral degree at the University of Cincinnati.
1980s
Terrence Milo Edwards ‘88 of Hollywood, Calif., debuted on the UPN television show Half & Half in February. He will return in the role of Neil’s Boss next season.
