Photo of Dr. Jaime Torres and the logo for the National Hispanic Medical AssociationMOVIMIENTO POR SU VIDA CD coverHispanic/Latino Work Group Vice-Chair, Dr. Jaime Torres, associate director of Consultative Services, Coler-Goldwater Specialty Hospital, who represents the National Hispanic Medical Association on the work group, helped launch the awareness campaign promoting NDEP’s new MOVIMIENTO, Por Su Vida (Movement, For Life) music CD. In November 2003, Dr. Torres participated in a radio media tour during which he interviewed with 13 Hispanic radio stations. He spoke with a mix of nationally syndicated and regional radio programs including Fuente de Salud, a national Hispanic radio network with 150 members stations, La Placita Bilingüe of California, a network with five California stations, and Radio Unica that has 15 member stations. In February 2004, Dr. Torres was featured on a CNN en Español news segment highlighting MOVIMIENTO and the importance for Hispanics to exercise as a means of preventing and managing diabetes. The national radio media tour generated more than 3 million listeners. The original music of MOVIMIENTO is copyright free.  You can download the music from http://www.cdc.gov/diabetes/ndep/movimiento.htm, or order the CD by calling 1-800-438-5383.  For more information on the work the National Hispanic Medical Association is doing with MOVIMIENTO or to talk with Dr. Torres about this project, visit the National Hispanic Medical Association Web site at www.nhmamd.org or call (212) 848-6573.
