Environmental Management Operation Clean Desert Display

Kids Display ImageWhat does the display offer?
The Environmental Management (EM) Kids Display was created to help explain to elementary school age children the different types of cleanup activities that take place at the Nevada Test Site. Clean up activities are necessary at the Nevada Test Site because of past nuclear testing activities. Through the use of animation and interactive pieces the display takes a highly technical topic and turns it into an interesting and informative tool for children and adults to learn.

Who created the display?
In order to gain a fresh perspective on information given to the public, the EM program teamed up with Advanced Technologies High School in Las Vegas, Nevada to form the EM Student Forum. The Student Forum is a pilot program which was created to help the EM Program provide understandable outreach material to stakeholders. During their first year, the students came up with a concept of a kids display with a comic book theme. The students developed the characters, wrote the script, and did the animation for the exhibit.

Who benefits from the Display?

  • Students
  • Teachers
  • After school programs
  • Libraries
  • Museums

How big is the exhibit?
The dimensions of the display are 11' wide, 7' deep and 8' tall. The display will need a large, secure area for setup. The best location for the display is a highly visible area with a steady traffic flow and can be locked up during off hours. To gain the most from the display it is suggested that it be available to visitors for at least one week.

Who do I contact to reserve the display?
If you are interested in temporarily using the EM Kids display please contact James Stover at 702-295-1993 or email at James.Stover@nv.doe.gov.
