San Jacinto Centennial Resurvey
November 2008
—In 1908 the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology at Berkeley mounted an expedition to the San Jacinto Mountain region, pioneering the exploration of southern California’s biology. On the 100th anniversary of this expedition, from 2008 to 2010, the San Diego Natural History Museum is retracing its path to see how the area’s wildlife has changed over the last century.

New Director of Research Division
Dr. Ezcurra and Dr. Hager receive the international Peacemaker Award from the National Conflict Resolution Center (NCRC) November 2008—Museum Entomology Curator Michael Wall, Ph. D., was recently appointed new director of the Museum’s Biodiversity Research Center of the Californias (BRCC). He replaces Dr. Exequiel Ezcurra, who has accepted a research position at the University of California, Riverside.

After completing his Ph.D. in Entomology at University of Connecticut in 2004, Michael received a postdoctoral fellowship to join a global biodiversity inventory organized by the American Museum of Natural History and the Australian Museum. He joined SDNHM as Curator of Entomology in January 2006. Michael's research focuses on two main areas; 1) the taxonomy and systematics of Heteroptera (e.g., stink bugs, plant bugs, assassin bugs, etc.), and 2) the natural history and ecology of insect-plant interactions (e.g., pollination, seed dispersal). He also spearheaded the recent Balboa Park Bioblitz, a 24-hour inventory of the biodiversity in a selected area.
