No Time to Crash! - Experience NASA's Web-based Air Traffic Control Simulator LineUp with Math

Two airplanes are on merging routes at different distances from the intersection, traveling at the same speed. Will you be able to provide an available alternative in time? Learn to resolve real-world air traffic conflicts using NASA's web-based simulator and be introduced to NASAs Quest website for educators.

NASA Airspace Systems Education Program - "Robin Whirlybird" (K-2) and "Future Flight Design" (3-5)
Come experience the new NASA multimedia products that support math and science education in the context of Aerospace Technology. Supporting National and State Standards these programs are tested and tried for student success and motivation. Using problem solving skills these highly motivating programs are guaranteed to bring a new level of excitement to your classroom as only NASA can!
This educational web site is designed for classroom use by teachers and students in Kindergarten through grade 4. An on-line, interactive book about one girl's visit with her mother to the rotorcraft research center at which her mother works (using a take your daughter to work scenario). While shadowing her mother at work, Robin Whirlybird learns about the kind of work being done at a NASA Rotorcraft facility. She also learns about the structure and function of different types of rotorcraft and about the science of flight as it pertains to rotorcraft. Activities include Smart Skies: a multimedia, online program that allows participants to practice the problem solving skills of an air traffic controller; lessons on the effects of microgravity on the heart and brain; and a videoconference to obtain certification for borrowing lunar rocks.

Future Flight Design
The presenter will engage you in standards-based, hands-on and web-based activities for middle school students. Participants will solve a future flight challenge and explore activities with hovercraft, helicopters, and gliders. A CD will be provided with the lesson plans, handouts, and resource information.

Future Flight Design
Participants will utilize the interactive web-based program Future Flight Design to incorporate aeronautics and aviation content, problem-based learning, the engineering design process and critical thinking skills to engage middle school students in designing future air transportation systems. The participants will be given an opportunity to complete various activities. One activity will introduce teachers to a FREE Airspace Systems Education product, developed at NASA Ames Research Center that leads students through a series of explorations that result in designing an aircraft to resolve a future flight challenge. Other activities include hands-on design and construction of hovercraft and gliders. These presenters are two of the educators from the premier Airspace Systems Education Cohort.
