Dear Neighbor Campaign

The Dear Neighbor Campaign has been an active fund-raising program for the American Heart Association for many years. The donations collected from your neighbors are tallied in a central location, but are ultimately credited back to your area so they benefit your local community.

Volunteers are recruited in the fall and are asked to address envelopes to about 12 to 15 neighbors, distribute educational materials to them via the Neighbor letters, collect donations and send them back to the American Heart Association. This annual campaign occurs in February, which is Heart Month. The kits are mailed on Jan. 15 each year and will arrive in homes around Feb. 1. Donations are returned to the American Heart Association by Feb. 28

Each kit contains enough supplies to mail letters to everyone shown on the assignment card for the volunteer’s block. The kit includes everything the volunteer needs except for the stamps used to mail the letters. Donations are processed in a centralized location at a bank.
