Usability and Accessibility features of the Intute site

When using this site, you will find a number of features that will help you to find the information you are looking for:

Finding your place in the site - The navigation list on the left of all pages shows each section of the site. The section heading is repeated at the top of each page.

Returning to the home page - When you want to return to the home page, you can click on the Home Link (at the top of the navigation on every page)

Finding extra hints - Each option in the navigation list on the left has a hint, to explain the content found in that section or page. To see the hint, move your mouse over the option.

Increasing the size of the text - If you prefer the font size on the Intute pages to be larger or smaller, you can control this using your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to change the size of the font displayed on the screen either permanently or temporarily. How you increase the font depends upon what browser you are using. Examples of how to increase or decrease fonts in several popular browsers follows:

Firefox
Internet Explorer
Opera
Netscape

Mozilla Firefox

To increase the text size

Hold down the 'Ctrl' key and press the '+' key
Font size will increase immediately.
To reduce the text size, hold down the 'Ctrl' key and press the '-' key.

Internet Explorer Version 5.5 and above

Provides 5 font sizes (largest, larger, medium, smaller, and smallest). Medium is the default size.

You change font size by:

selecting 'View' from the menu bar, and,
selecting 'Text Size' then,
select the size you want from the list.

Or:

press and hold the 'Alt' key, then
type 'V' and 'X', then
release 'Alt' key, then
select the size you want from the list

The font size you select will remain in effect until you select a different size.

Opera Version 6.0 and above

You increase or decrease the displayed font size by:

press and hold the 'Alt' key, then
type 'V' and 'Z', then
release 'Alt' key, then
select the size you want from the list

If you have a wheel on your mouse you can also increase and decrease the size of the text by:

press and hold the "CTRL" key, then move the wheel up and down to change the size of the text.

Netscape Navigator Version 4.7x and above

Allows users to increase or decrease font size with shortcut keys.

To increase the displayed font size:

Hold down the 'Ctrl' key and press the ']' key.
Font size will increase immediately.
If you want to increase the size further simply press the ']' key while still holding down the 'Ctrl' key.

To decrease the displayed font size:

Hold down the 'Ctrl' key and press the '[' key.
The font size will decrease immediately.
If you want to decrease the size further simply press the '[' key while still holding down the 'Ctrl' key.

Your selected font size will remain in effect until you close Netscape.

Skipping the navigation
If you are using an audio browser and don't wish to have the navigation read out to you on any page, we have included a 'skip navigation' link as one of the first entries on the page. If you select this link you will be taken straight to the page heading, and then the page content.

Making a site accessible to everyone who wants to use it is important, and we have tried to ensure that our site is completely accessible to all.

Unfortunately the accessibility of the resources included in the Intute database and our associated services is beyond our control. If you have a problem with one of the sites listed in our catalogue or services, please contact the webmaster responsible for the site in question.

MyIntute

MyIntute is a service in development. It currently requires the use of Javascript, which may lead to accessibility issues. Please note that this does not affect our core functionality. A non-Javascript version is in development.
