C.W. Lovell Distinguished Lecture Series
On Oct. 21st, Prof. David M. Potts of the Imperial College London delivered the 7th C.W. Lovell Distinguished Lecture entitled "Using Numerical Analysis in Geotechnical Engineering Practice." The lecture was followed by a symposium on "The Role of Numerical Analysis in Interdisciplinary Engineering Research."
Dedication of the Leonard E. & Margaret R. Wood Commons
The Wood Commons was formally opened on Saturday, October 27, 2007 on Homecoming Weekend. This area for students, faculty, staff and alumni to gather was made possible by a generous donation from Margaret Wood, widow of former faculty member and alumnus Leonard Wood.

On April 18, 2008 the Purdue Geotechnical Group hosted the 6th Leonards Lecture, offered by Dr. Jean-Lou Chameau, President of the California Institute of Technology. The topic of the lecture: "Role of the University in Education for Sustainability."
Quiet highways research featured on History Channel program
Engineers at Purdue's Superpave Center are addressing the issue of highway noise by conducting research on quiet pavement. A 38,000-pound, 12-foot diameter circular machine designed at Purdue makes it possible to test numerous types of pavement surfaces and compositions in combination with various tire designs.
