Homeland Security

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) works hand-in-hand with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in ensuring the safety of the United States and its people. Nuclear or radiological terrorism is a serious and deadly problem that threatens the vital interests of the United States and abroad.

The Nevada Test Site is a primary training ground for our nation’s weapons of mass destruction responders. Training in a realistic weapons of mass destruction operations environment is critical to prepare responders both physically and psychologically for a terrorist incident.

In addition, NNSA maintains several radiological emergency response assets. When the need arises, NNSA is prepared to respond immediately to any type of radiological accident or incident anywhere in the world.
