Public Involvement

Public Involvement Outreach Photo An integral cross-cutting activity within the Environmental Management Program is the public involvement function. Communication among the U.S. Department of Energy staff, its contractors, and the public is an essential element in successfully conducting Environmental Management work. Not only are interested stakeholders informed about Environmental Management activities at the Nevada Test Site, they are also invited to provide useful, independent ideas.

Public involvement initiatives include developing and distributing fact sheets, publications, and exhibits as well as supporting regularly-scheduled meetings between the Nevada Site Office staff and stakeholders, and special interest presentations and discussions. Occasional tours of the Nevada Test Site are conducted to provide a wide variety of groups, organizations, and individuals the opportunity to see some of the Environmental Management projects that are managed by the Nevada Site Office.

The Environmental Management Program also supports a site-specific advisory board called the Community Advisory Board (CAB) for Nevada Test Site Programs. The Board reviews plans and programs created by the U.S. Department of Energy, Nevada Site Office Environmental Management Program and provides citizen recommendations on a wide array of environmental management issues.
