Missing Persons Database Goes Live on NamUs
Families and loved ones of missing persons — plus law enforcement officers and missing persons clearinghouse professionals — now have an important resource to help solve cases: www.findthemissing.org Exit Notice.
The missing persons database is the second database in "NamUs," the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System. The NamUs unidentified decedents database went live in July 2007. It contains information entered by medical examiners and coroners on people who have died and whose bodies have not been identified.
The missing persons database can be searched by anyone. Data about missing persons cases will be validated before it appears on the Web site. The site also provides links to state clearinghouses, medical examiners and coroners, victim assistance groups and pertinent legislation.
