Privacy Statement -- ADEC WebsiteI. Collection, Use and Storage of Personal Information by ADEC ADEC will only collect information from our website visitors by the means and at the points on the website specifically identified. ADEC is the sole owner of this information. We will not give, sell, share, or rent this information to others in ways different from what is disclosed in this statement. Most visitors to the ADEC Website are not required to provide any personal or other information in order to take full advantage of the vast amount of information and resources provided. Personal information will be obtained only from people who choose to use the e-mail and e-commerce features of the ADEC Website. The privacy implications for E-mail, Online Registration and e-Commerce Transactions are fully described elsewhere in this privacy statement. Log Files and Demographic Information: ADEC collects data from your IP address to help diagnose problems with our server and to obtain broad demographic information about our website visitors. Information obtained and stored from your IP address is limited to: 1. The Internet domain (for example. "yourcompany.com" if you use a private Internet access account, or "your school.edu" if you connect from a university's domain) and IP address from which you assess the ADEC Website. 2. The type of browser and operating system used to access our site. 3. The date and time of your visit to our website. 4. The places on our website which were visited. 5. E-mail: If you choose to send e-mail through the ADEC Website, we will use the information only in responding to you with the information you may have requested. We treat all e-mail the same way we treat letters sent to ADEC. We do not collect personal information for any purpose other than to respond to you. We may forward your e-mail message to an ADEC member organization if they can provide the information you request. Links to Other Sites: This website contains links to other sites. Please be aware that ADEC is not responsible for the privacy practices or policies of other websites. When you click on one of these links, you are moving to another website. We encourage you to read the privacy statements of these sites as their privacy policy may differ from ours. The ADEC Degree and Program Database Catalog: Visitors to the ADEC Website may browse though the pages included in the Degree and Program Database Catalog without providing any personal information. The descriptions of degree programs, courses and other educational programs and products contained within these pages are provided by participating ADEC member institutions. Online Registration: Registration for courses that are contained within the ADEC Degree and Program Database Catalog requires the user to first complete the Online Course Registration form. Registration information about the individual is used to:
Some demographic information is identified on the registration form as being optional. In some cases where registration approval from the issuing institution is required, instructions will be provided explaining what is needed to successfully complete the registration. ADEC will not share any registration information with any third party other than the issuing institution. Aggregated information from the ADEC user data base will be shared only with ADEC member institutions. This aggregated information will not be linked to personal information that can identify any individual person. If a visitor to the ADEC On-Line Course Registration page indicates a desire to be included on an ADEC mailing list, this information will be held only by ADEC and will not be provided to a third party. e-Commerce Transactions: Use of the e-Commerce feature of the ADEC Website requires the user to provide credit card information on the On-Line Course Registration page. This information is not stored by ADEC and is available only to the organizations (CyberCash and Visa or MasterCard) which must review the information to approve the credit card transaction. Credit card information is tightly protected as described in the Security section of this statement. Cookies: Cookies are small pieces of information that are stored by your browser on your computer's hard drive. Our cookies do not contain any personally identifying information, but they do allow ADEC to provide user friendly access to the On-Line Course Registration page and to the e-Commerce features of the ADEC Website. For example, the cookie on your hard drive would allow you to use On-Line Course Registration without re-entering the required personal identification information. Your Password and credit card information will NOT be stored as cookies. This information must be re-entered for each transaction in order to maintain maximum security of your information. Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but can usually be changed to prevent cookies. Even without a cookie, you can still use all of the features of the ADEC Website including the ADEC Degree and Program Database Catalog, On-Line Course Registration and e-Commerce. Choice/Opt-In: ADEC does not share any personally identifiable information with third parties which could be used to generate advertising, e-mail or other promotional contacts. In order to receive information about programs from ADEC, the user must "opt-in" by activating that choice on the On-Line Course Registration page. The user may receive course or program related correspondence from the institution which is delivering the course or program for which the user has registered. II. Security The ADEC Website has security measures in place to protect against the loss, misuse, and alteration of the information under our control. Access to computer data and files at ADEC is secured by password coding to prevent unauthorized access. ADEC utilizes industry standard SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encryption when accepting your credit card information during the online e-commerce checkout process. SSL encryption is a method by which information transmitted across the Internet is encoded to defeat theft by anyone who should intercept the data before it reaches its destination. Webpages where SSL encryption is activated are typically identified by a lock or key symbol displayed in your browser. While ADEC uses SSL encryption to protect sensitive information online, user information is also protected off-line. All user information is restricted in our offices. Only authorized persons are granted access to the password accessible personally identifiable information. III. Notification of Changes ADEC security and privacy policies are periodically reviewed and enhanced as necessary. Any changes to these policies will be posted immediately in this statement. Any security or privacy policy changes shall not retroactively effect any personally identifiable information held by ADEC unless such a change would INCREASE privacy and security protections for the user. IV. Updating and Correcting Information -- Contacting ADEC: Visitors to the ADEC Website and users of the ADEC Degree and Program Database Catalog, On-Line Course Registration and e-Commerce pages may want to delete or change information in the site's database. Personal information may be updated at any time by entering the user's password on the On-Line Course Registration page and changing their personal information including credit card data. Anyone may request that their name and all personal information be removed from the ADEC database by sending an e-mail message to adec-security@unl.edu.
