Last year, Fort Valley State University adopted Fort Valley Middle School as part of an agreement signed by FVSU President Dr. Larry E. Rivers and former FVMS Principal Quentin B. Green. This year, the first anniversary of that landmark pact has been celebrated during the week of December 8-12 with various guest speakers from the University as well as some departments making presentations. One of those departments making a contribution to the effort was the FVSU Department of Athletics.

Athletes at Fort Valley State University were given words of inspiration by former head football coach Doug Porter at a recent assembly. Porter, a member of the 2008 class of the College Football Hall of Fame, coached at Fort Valley State from 1979 to 1996 and compiled a record of 112-66-3 in leading the Wildcats to six Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships, two NCAA Division II playoff appearances and its highest ranking ever (#2 in 1985) in the Division II Football Poll.
