RURAL LIVING IN MONTANA
INFORMATION CENTER

Welcome to the Rural Living in Montana Web Site hosted by Montana State University Extension. The information contained within this site has been designed to assist landowners with all types of information on livestock, natural resources, construction and pests. If you are new to Montana or new to rural landownership you need to become acquainted with the agencies that can assist you with answers to questions on living in Rural Montana. One of these agencies is the Montana State University Extension. This agency has been in existence for nearly 100 years. The original purpose of the nationwide agency was to educate farmers and ranchers about the new research available by land grant Universities in the United States.

As more people make Montana their home, traditional ranches are being divided into smaller acreage lots that include a place for a home and many times an opportunity to raise some type of livestock. Many small acreage landowners would like to have green pastures to raise horses, calves, or sheep. This web site provides the education and guidance owners need to successfully maintain a healthy eco-system.

The Rural Living in Montana Web Site is designed to assist Montana Landowners with information and education on the Natural Resource issues that face owners of smaller sized parcels. The web site is sponsored by Montana State University Extension but many of the resources that are needed by landowners are located right in your own county at the local Extension Office. The people that staff these offices know the soils, climate, grasses, and other information that you will need because they live in the county. To find the location of your local Extension Office click on the map.

Another information source for rural landowners is the Big Sky Small Acres magazine. This magazine contains articles for all Montana landowners.
