Special Tips for Travelers, January 17-21
Ground Transportation - Roads coming to and from the airports will be affected by closures on January 20th.  Click here to view the closures and a map.
  • Please be aware when making rental car arrangements that local travel could be very difficult on Inaugural event dates due to road closures and congestion.  Refer to the other websites below to check for the latest information and sign up for email alerts.
  • Motorists will only be able to drive to Reagan National Airport via Route 1 in Virginia. The best alternatives to reach the Airport on January 20th are Metrorail, taxicabs and SuperShuttles.
  • Motorists coming to Dulles International will be able to use the Airport Access Highway but will not be able to use Route 66 going eastbound towards Washington D.C. on January 20th. Taxicabs, SuperShuttles, Washington Flyer Coach Service and buses will be able to use Route 66 eastbound.  Metrobus route 5A to/from Washington will have extra service with fewer stops (click here for Metro's press release).
  • Motorists should expect traffic delays on the 20th and plan accordingly if driving to or from the airports.

Inaugural Souvenirs - Many stores throughout each Airport will have Inaugural souvenirs for sale during your visit.

Outbound Travel After the Inauguration - Expect large crowds at the Airports on Wednesday, January 21 as many passengers are expected to depart that day.
