Gardening Contained

Have you ever wanted to harvest your own organically-grown herbs, vegetables and flowers from right outside your door?  Don't have the space or time for a full-sized garden? Want to compliment your established garden with some easy accents? If so, then Gardening Contained is for you! In this container gardening workshop, you’ll learn how to mix and match plants for maximum color, texture and size. You’ll also learn about soil mixes, fertilizing and watering, and how to keep your container garden looking good all season long. We'll provide you with our own special potting mix and select plants from our organic plant sale to help you create a beautiful, moveable garden! Women Mentoring Women: Sustaining Pennsylvania's Female Farmers

Join PA-WAgN, Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, Southeast RC&D, Pennsylvania Association of Sustainable Agriculture (PASA), and the Rodale Institute to celebrate the important role mentoring plays in the future of agriculture. The workshop will also focus on connecting women farmers with mentors in various areas of sustainable agriculture. Interpretative Walk

Join Eileen Weinsteiger in a 3 mile walk on the Perimeter Trail that circumvents the 333 acres Rodale Institute certified organic farm. The itinerary is designed to incorporate into the walk a number of stops where the group will learn about the sustainable principles used in our beautiful gardens and production fields. Participants will be able to observe the rich diversity of flora and fauna in our woodlot and pond areas as well as the organic apple orchard. Instructor: Eileen Weinsteiger. Fee: $ 20.00/person. Annual Field Day
Organic No-Till: New Farming Strategy for the 21 Century

Organic No-Till brings together the environmental benefits of organic production- eliminating chemical pesticides and fertilizers and improving soil quality through composts and cover crops—with the conservation benefits of reduced or zero-tillage. This one day event brings together researchers, farmers and extension educators to share their success and challenge encountered on the road of perfecting a farming system that may be the only viable alternative for farming in the future.
