CIT Computer Training Program

CIT Computer Training offers a wide variety of short NIH-focused seminars to help users make efficient and effective use of computing in their work at NIH. All sessions are available free of charge to NIH staff, and with over 130 different seminars available in the Fall term, there should be something for everyone. Sessions are open to all NIH employees and to users of CIT resources, with courses offered both on and off-campus.

Some of the current seminar topics include the following categories: Personal Computing, General Seminars, Web Development, and Seminars for Scientists, all of which are taught from an NIH perspective. A few highlighted seminars from the current term include: “Creating Web Pages with HTML/XHTML,” “Blackberry Tips and Tricks,” “LISTSERV,” “Outlook Tips and Tricks,” “Polish Scientific Images with Photoshop Elements,” and “Perl for Biologists.”

One unique aspect of this program is that 75 percent of instructors are volunteers. They come from ICs, HHS, other Government agencies, and industry. Over the past several years, CIT has developed partnerships with groups across NIH that need a venue to offer classes. The NIH Library, NCBI, and DEAS are just a few of those groups, and these relationships have brought many seminars to the program and therefore to the NIH.

The current term’s schedule with course descriptions can be found at http://training.cit.nih.gov. CIT Training is always looking for enthusiastic speakers with new topics, so if there is a topic of interest that you or someone you know would like to present to the NIH community, please contact the CIT Training Program at 301-594-6248.
