The DOE National Transportation Program is responsible for the communication outreach to DOE, state governments, tribal governments, local governments, external stakeholders and public to promote understanding and acceptance of DOE's transportation information and activities. One of these transportation activities is the SAFETY of radioactive material transportation and packaging.

The Scientific Visualization Program was established to accomplish this task by providing stakeholders/users an opportunity to assess various transportation testing results in answering the question: "How safe is safe, in radioactive material transportation and packaging?"

The Advanced Visualization Program has taken advantage of mass-communication through Internet technology and 25 years of transportation experience and documented accident data by demonstrating RAM information, regulations, requirements, safety issues, emergency response, regulatory package testing, accident conditions, real-life accident comparisons, resources, and contacts to create this tool.

This program is internationally recognized from the PATRAM 2001 - the 13th International Symposium on the Packaging and Transportation of Radioactive Material. Recipient of the AOKI AWARD for Distinguished Poster Presentation.

PATRAM, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency brings government and industry leaders together to share information on innovations, developments, and lessons learned about radioactive materials packaging and transportation.
