General Information
This "quick info guide" provides important information on MTA transit modes including Local Buses, Light Rail and Metro Subway. Refer to this guide when you need information on how to ride a specific service, hours of operation, frequency of service and basic fares.
MTA LOCAL BUS
The MTA operates nearly 50 Local Bus lines throughout the Baltimore area. For individual Bus routes and schedule information, call the MTA Transit Information Line at 410-539-5000 or 1-866-RIDE-MTA (743-3682) or visit http://www.mtamaryland.com/.
How to ride the Local Bus:
- Pay the fare as you board. Exact fare is required.
- Smoking, eating, drinking, or audio devices without earphones are not allowed onboard.
- Listen for the operator stop announcements.
- Press the yellow strip to alert the operator that you want to exit.
- Exit through the back door when possible and take all your belongings with you.
METRO SUBWAY
Hours of Operation:
Monday-Friday: 5:00 a.m.-midnight
Saturday, Sunday, and Holidays: 6:00 a.m.-midnight
The 15.5-mile, 14-station Metro Subway system operates every 8 minutes during rush hour, 10 minutes during the day, and 11 minutes evenings, Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays.
How to ride Metro Subway:
- Purchase a ticket before boarding.
- Pass through the faregate and get onboard.
- Smoking, eating, drinking, or audio devices without earphones are not allowed onboard.
- Listen for the operator stop announcements.
- Exit when the doors open and take all your belongings with you.
LIGHT RAIL
Hours of Operation:
Monday-Friday: 6:00 a.m.-11:00 p.m.
Saturday: 7:00 a.m.-11:00 p.m.
Sunday & Holidays: 11:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.
Light Rail trains operate 10 minutes peak/15 minutes off peak between Timonium and Linthicum and 20-30 minutes between Hunt Valley and Timonium, Linthicum and BWI Marshall Airport, and Linthicum and Cromwell Station/Glen Burnie. Also, every 20-30 minutes between Penn Station and Camden Yards on the Light Rail Shuttle Train.
How to ride Light Rail:
- Purchase a ticket before boarding.
- Press the button on the outside of the train to gain entry.
- Smoking, eating, drinking, or audio devices without earphones are not allowed onboard.
- Listen for the operator stop announcements.
- To exit, press the green button next to the door.
- Take all your belongings with you.
BASIC FARES FOR LOCAL BUS, LIGHT RAIL AND METRO SUBWAY:
$1.60 one-way, $3.20 round trip, $3.50 Day Pass, $16.50 weekly pass, and $64.00 monthly pass. Senior/Disability fares: $.55 one-way, $1.20 Day Pass, $16.50 monthly pass.
