Office of the Vice President for Information Technology

Gerry McCartney

William G. McCartney Vice President for Information Technology & CIO

At Purdue University, the Office of the Vice President for Information Technology provides leadership for planning and coordinating central IT resources and is responsible for further developing the computing and telecommunications systems on the West Lafayette campus.

The office provides oversight for an organization informally known as ITaP, which provides computing resources for the University’s research, academic, and administrative needs. The organization consists of six business units providing IT resources, services, and user support:

Formed in 2001, ITaP initially brought together several related areas of computing and telecommunications as a result of Purdue's vision for seamlessly integrating information technology with learning, discovery, engagement, and business enterprise of the University. In the years since, ITaP has formed partnerships with distributed IT groups within the University, led development of the IT strategic plan to support University decisions, and launched numerous new projects for research, academic, and administrative computing such as the SecurePurdue initiative.

The office is led by Gerry McCartney, who began serving as Purdue University's interim vice president for information technology and chief information officer on July 3, 2006. After a nationwide search, his appointment was announced May 31, 2007.
