Program Benefits Analysis Market Analysis Energy Policy Analysis Data Books Databases Renewable Energy Technology Characterizations Data and Analysis by Program and Technology

The Office of Planning, Budget, and Analysis (PBA) conducts analyses and collects and disseminates data relating to renewable energy and energy efficiency programs and the related technologies.

The Data and Analysis section of the PBA Web site is organized by the following general areas:

Program Benefits Analysis

PBA performs public benefits analysis, which estimates the future benefits of EERE programs under the Government Performance and Results Act (GPRA) of 1993. While looking at projected benefits, this analysis also retroactively assesses the benefits of past program activities.

Market Analysis

PBA conducts market analysis, which looks at factors that shape the markets for EERE products and technologies, and provides sector-specific information needed for benefits and policy analysis. This includes analyzing the impact of energy markets on renewable energy investments, consumer preferences, supply conditions, and other factors that shape these markets.

Energy Policy Analysis

PBA provides policy analysis, which can cut across multiple technologies, EERE programs, or market sectors. These analyses can include portfolio work, methods of calculating or describing energy security and environmental benefits, analytic participation in international working groups, and EERE input for organization-wide strategic plans.

Data Books

PBA supports the collection and presentation, in a user-friendly manner, of substantial amounts of economic and market data pertinent to the office's technologies and R&D programs. PBA collects data and makes it available in the form of data books, which provide a comprehensive look at various technology areas (electric sector, buildings, transportation, etc.) and improve the consistency and efficiency of EERE analysis.

Databases

PBA collects data from various sources and makes this analysis available on the Web, highlighting the data systems that provide EERE-related information. While EERE has helped develop and maintain some of these data resources, some of the online references are generated by other research organizations.

Analysis Database

An analysis database—developed by the Planning, Analysis, and Evaluation (PAE) team of PBA—provides a starting point for accessing key market, policy, technology, and program analysis and data through an easy-to-navigate system. Key resources are hand-picked for their usefulness and categorized by program/technology and type of resource. This database contains energy data, documents, databases, maps, models, presentation slides, energy conversions, and online resources.

Renewable Energy Technology Characterizations

PBA's Renewable Energy Technology Characterizations describe the technical and economic status of the major renewable energy options for electricity supply. These characterizations represent estimates of future performance and cost improvements expected for these technologies, based on continuing research and development (R&D) and development of markets for renewable energy through the year 2030.

Data and Analysis by Program and Technology

While PBA conducts analysis related to benefits, markets, and policies, all of this analysis also has a relevance to a specific EERE program or technology. This area of the site can help you find analysis products by a program or technology type, rather than a general type of analysis.
