Strategic Plan accomplishments for Information Technology at Purdue

  • Rosen Center for Advanced Computing: New and emerging models for supporting research (Educause Center for Applied Research Case Study 7, 2005); received grants totaling $4.2 million; projects are nanoHub, TeraGrid, CMS, Open Science Grid, Northwest Indiana Computational Grid, and the Envision Center for Data Perceptualization.
  • Grid computing: 7 million hours of otherwise idle compute cycles last year using Condor as featured in Chicago Tribune ("Grid computing gaining acceptance" by Jon Van, Jan. 2, 2007).
  • Software Remote: Web-based access to free academic software; won inaugural IT Leadership Award from EdTech: Focus on Higher Education magazine.
  • Digital Learning Collaboratory: Integrated teaching and learning of information and technology literacy with access to a multimedia lab of 59 computers, where students average 12,000 hours of use per month, in collaboration with Purdue Libraries.
  • Systemwide platform for delivering web-based course content: Blackboard WebCT Vista has grown from 10,000 users in spring 2004 to 33,000 users in fall 2006.
  • Machine room: Doubled the space at less than 20 percent of the cost of building new space.
  • Reliable, free calendaring services along with email: Provided for all faculty and staff on the West Lafayette campus.
  • OnePurdue: Supported implementation for SAP business applications for financials and human resources.
  • OnePurdue training: Provided to more than 4,000 employees, representing more than 25,000 seats of training through nearly 50 instructor- or web-based courses; to date, resolved 94 percent of more than 5,000 user inquiries.
  • Central IT security organization, SecurePurdue initiative, and Identity and Access Management Office: Established for improving data security and infrastructure for accurate authentication and authorization of Purdue IT resources; completed 98 percent of requests for Social Security number remediation.
