The Public Museum Capital Grants Program is designed to help public museums in Illinois expand and upgrade facilities and create new exhibitions.

Bird Haven Greenhouse - Joliet - $448,000

Brookfield Zoo - Brookfield - $579,000
Electrical Infrastructure Improvements - This project involves the installation of a gas generator which will provide additional power capacity required by the zoo and additional chilled water capacity to the Seven Seas pinniped facility, the venue for the zoo's dolphin presentations. Burpee Museum of Natural History - Rockford - $85,000

Chicago Botanic Garden - Glencoe - $579,000

Chicago Historical Society - Chicago - $350,000

The Adler Planetarium - Chicago - $690,000
Exhibits, Energy Conservation, and Capital Improvements - Grant funds will assist with the installation of a new exhibit and upgrading an existing exhibit with ten new components. The project also includes the design and installation of a standby generator, exterior remote electrical service, and several energy efficient measures. NorthEast Quadrant Building - The project will assist in construction of the new building, which will include collections' display space, gallery space, educational programming space, a new bus entrance, and a Teacher Resource Center. (Contact Person: Patricia Woodworth, 312-443-3511)

 

Bird Haven Greenhouse - Joliet - $280,000
Historic Greenhouse Rehabilitation - Phase I - Grant funds will assist in the restoration of three greenhouses within this historically significant conservatory, designed by the renowned architectural firm of Lord and Burnham. Brookfield Zoo - Brookfield - $820,000
Wolf Woods - The project involves the development of exhibit space for the Mexican gray wolf, in keeping with the zoo's commitment to furthering conservation through the breeding and management of endangered species. Public spaces at Wolf Woods will include a peaceful, natural setting, permitting access for visitors with disabilities, a multi-sensory learning component, and an all-season heated cabin for viewing of wolves year-around. Burpee Museum of Natural History - Rockford - $20,000
New Exhibits and Facilities Design - The project includes the design and construction of a Butterfly House exhibit, a water lab and dock, and a boathouse exhibit. The projects will allow the museum to provide educational services and program enrichment for students, teachers, scientists, and the public throughout Illinois. Chicago Botanic Garden - Glencoe - $820,000
Lakeside and Water Gardens of the Great Basin - The gardens are part of the overall development of the 7.5-acre lake located south of the garden's Main Island. Grant funds will support project design work and the extensive earthwork required to create the gardens and reshape the lake bed of the Great Basin. Chicago Children's Museum - Chicago - $92,000
Play It Safe Exhibit-Phase II - The project involves construction of this interactive exhibit, designed to suggest the appearance of a home and its immediate environs. Chicago Cultural Center - Chicago - $350,000
Domes Restoration-Phase I - The project provides for extensive restoration of two historically significant domes, the Grand Army of the Republic Dome and the Preston Bradley Hall Dome. Chicago Historical Society - Chicago - $546,000
Eschackagou Exhibit (1670 through 1820s) - Grant funds will assist with the design and construction of "Eschackagou," a component of the new Chicago History Exhibition. This overall exhibition is being designed to appeal to a wide range of audiences including families, adults, school groups, local visitors, and tourists. Children's Discovery Museum of Central Illinois - Bloomington - $243,000
"Discover this" Phase II - New Museum Construction - The "Discover this" project is a public/private partnership between the Children's Discovery Museum of Central Illinois and the Town of Normal to build a new museum that is to be the cornerstone of a comphensive renewal initiative for downtown Normal. Building and Grounds Renovation and New Exhibit - The project includes the addition of a new pin screen exhibit and renovation of an exterior exhibit. Jarrett Prairie Center - Byron - $7,602<br>
Interpretive Signage Development - This project includes the addition of interpretive signage to existing exhibits explaining the native landscape in Illinois before European settlement. (Contact: Richie Wolf, 815-234-8535)<p>

John A. Logan College Museum - Carterville - $7,602<br>

Kendall County Natural History Center - Yorkville - $7,585<br>

Klehm Arboretum - Rockford - $7,602<br>

Kohl Children's Museum - Wilmette - $16,841<br>

Around the Ring:  Theater and Literature in Lake Forest - This project includes the development of an exhibit and accompanying programs interpreting Lake Forest's relationship to theater and literature and developing a school program for high school students focusing on the novel "The Great Gatsby," to help them understand the references made in the book. Early People of Palos Program - Funding will assist in the creation of educational programming with first-person reenactors and a brochure on the early inhabitants of the Palos area.
