The goals of IVS are:

  • To provide a service to support geodetic, geophysical and astrometric research and operational activities.
  • To interact with the community of users of VLBI products and to integrate VLBI into a global Earth observing system.
  • To promote research and development activities in all aspects of the geodetic and astrometric VLBI technique.

News and Current Events

December Newsletter (December 22)
The December issue of the IVS Newsletter was posted on the Web site and the print version will be sent to the IVS mailing list in the next days. The main feature in this issue is about the Geographical Survey Institute at Tsukuba.

Results of Representative Elections (December 18)
The IVS Associate Members have elected the following people to be representatives on the Directing Board: Gino Tuccari (Networks), Oleg Titov (Analysis and Data Centers), and Rüdiger Haas (Technology Development Centers). You can now submit nominations for the three at-large positions; the deadline for at-large nominations is 14 January 2009 (see the Call for Nominations).

Technical Operations Workshop 2009 (December 8)
The fifth IVS Technical Operations Workshop (TOW2009) is scheduled for April 27-30, 2009 at Haystack Observatory. The intended audience is the technical staff of the stations. The meeting will be oriented towards hands-on training and problem resolution in VLBI operations.

Call for 2008 Annual Report (December 8)
The IVS Directing Board invites all IVS components to submit reports for the IVS 2008 Annual Report. The 2008 Annual Report will cover the calendar year from January 1 through December 31, 2008. Reports are due January 16, 2009.

VLBI2010 Workshop on Future Radio Frequencies and Feeds (November 13)
The Second Circular for the VLBI2010 Workshop on Future Radio Frequencies and Feeds (FRFF) was posted. The local organizers maintain a meeting Web page with more information at FRFF2009.
