Manufacturing-Works®, (MW), is a partnership with the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the Wyoming Business Council, and the University of Wyoming and provides technical assistance to manufacturers and technical oriented business at their locations, “we make house calls.”

This not-for-profit organization has professionals positioned throughout the State of Wyoming, with offices located in Casper, Cheyenne, Laramie, Powell, Riverton, Rock Springs, and emerging offices in Jackson, Douglas and Gillette. Their experience includes over 200 years of technical experience, five registered professional engineers, five graduate degrees, and ten undergraduate degrees.

MW offers quantifiable hours of free service per year per business as well as unlimited access to technical assistance for contract development and completion. Other functions include: technical manufacturing support nationwide, LEAN, Six Sigma, OSHA and environmental seminars; environmental, energy and agricultural development and enhancements; ISO certification; free online manufacturing directory; sales, marketing and website assessments including design and development. The U.S. Department of Commerce and the University of Wyoming perform an audit of Manufacturing-Works each year.

An opportunity developed for Wyoming to transform to its own Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP), thus moving away from the Mid-American Manufacturing Technology Center (MAMTC) partnership that has served Wyoming for the last ten years. Based on our past performance and reputation in Wyoming, we were encouraged by many to establish our own MEP. NIST/MEP refers to each state as a separate entity regardless of affiliation making this decision easier.

Some of the benefits as a result of the new organization include:

  • Program will be more rural state oriented
  • Focus will be more service oriented and Wyoming culture oriented
  • More direct proactive support by NIST/MEP and Federal Labs
  • Increased Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) integration
  • Ability to realign staffing to better serve Wyoming’s needs
  • Intimate involvement with the reorganized Association of Wyoming Manufacturers and the newly formed Wyoming Technology Organization
  • Closer ties to other Wyoming economic development organizations
  • Enhanced partnerships with the Wyoming Business Council, University of Wyoming, Small Business Development Center, Wyoming Women’s Business Center, Wyoming Market Research Center, Wyoming Research Products Center, Converse Area New Development Organization (CANDO), Community Colleges & others.

As of July 1, 2005, MAMTC-Wyoming will now be known as Manufacturing-Works®. Our mission will be: “Manufacturing Success/Manufacturing Wyoming’s Future.” We envision ourselves to be the premiere catalyst for positive change and development in manufacturing and technology companies in the immediate Mountain West area as quantifiable success seen through the customer’s eyes.
