Alaska Geographic Data Committee
The Alaska Geographic Data Committee (AGDC) was organized in
the early 1990s to support the initiatives and goals of the Federal Geographic
Data Committee (FGDC) in Alaska through the coordination of geospatial data
activities and to promote data sharing among the Federal, state, Native, local,
commercial, and non-governmental (NGO) member agencies. The Committee is co-chaired by the Senior Geographer, USGS Alaska Science Center Geographic Science and the Chief, Land Records Information System, State of Alaska Department of
Natural Resources. The USGS Alaska Science Center Geographic Science operates and
maintains the AGDC National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) Clearinghouse to
serve that purpose. This allows
Committee members easy and real-time access to this public domain geospatial
data that is not dependent on outside Internet lines; provides local contact
information for data acquisition, archiving, and technical assistance; and
assists in the coordination of geospatial data collection and planning among
the Committee members to reduce costs and avoid duplication of effort. There are currently over 65 official members of the AGDC.
