Reports and Presentations

Earth Science Presentations at Various Science Conferences
A collection of PowerPoint presentations with accompanying QuickTime movies of data animations and satellite fly-bys presented by senior EOS scientists at scientific conferences and other high-level program meetings.

Remote Sensing of the Earth's Environment from Terra
A set of 2 CD-Roms (available for order via the web) containing a collection of PowerPoint lectures and videos given in a course titled "Remote Sensing of the Earth's Environment from Terra" in L'Aquila, Italy in August 2002. This set is suitable for professors, graduate level students, and the research community.

Science Publications

The Earth Observer (1995-Present)
A bi-monthly publication higlighting EOS news.

Algorithm Theoretical Basis Documents
Algorithm Theoretical Basis Documents (ATBDs) are being developed for every EOS instrument product. ATBDs typically provide the theoretical basis, both the physical theory and the mathematical procedures and possible assumptions being applied for the calculations that have to be made to convert the radiances received by the instruments to geophysical quantities.

Our Changing Planet: The View from Space
The book is one of the most comprehensive and truly understandable collections of eye-popping NASA satellite imagery, as well as the current science behind it, and what it all means in terms of global climate change. It is published by Cambridge University Press.

EOS Spacecraft & Instrument Brochures
Brochures covering Aura, Landsat 7 and Terra. There are also brochures on Terra's instruments: ASTER, CERES, MISR, MODIS, and MOPITT.

EOS Data Products Handbook (Volume 2) (2000)
The EOS Data Products Handbook Volume 2 provides brief descriptions of the data products that are being produced from a range of missions of the Earth Observing System (EOS) and associated projects. Volume 2 of the Handbook covers the Active Cavity Radiometer Irradiance Monitor Satellite (ACRIMSAT), Aqua, Jason-1, Landsat 7, Meteor 3M/Stratospheric Aerosol and Gas Experiment III (SAGE III), the Quick Scatterometer (QuikScat), the Quick Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer (QuikTOMS), and the Vegetation Canopy Lidar (VCL) missions.

EOS Data Products Handbook (Volume 1) (Revised)
This document is designed to provide you with information about the products available through the EOSDIS system in the TRMM and Terra timeframes. This document also contains information about the EOSDIS Distributed Active Archive Centers (DAACs) and the EOS instrument teams.

Earth Science Reference Handbook
The Earth Science Reference Handbook provides a guide to the satellite missions and other elements of NASA's Earth science program. This 2006 volume updates the 1999 EOS Reference Handbook, now that the major missions of the Earth Observing System (EOS) have been launched and are transmitting data, and broadens the coverage to include not just EOS but also additional NASA Earth science missions.

1999 EOS Science Plan (Revised)
The purpose of the EOS Science Plan is to state the concerns and problems facing Earth Science today, and to indicate contributions that will be made toward providing solutions to those problems, primarily through the use of satellite-based observations that will be obtained with EOS satellites and instruments.

Published Research Papers Archive (June 2000-Present)
An archive of published research papers from EOS scientists.

Ocean Surface Topography from Space Published Research Papers Archive (1990-Present)
The Ocean Surface Topography missions are designed to monitor global ocean circulation, discover the tie between the oceans and atmosphere, improve global climate predictions, and monitor events such as El Niño and La Niña and ocean eddies. Jason-1 is a joint U.S.-France (Centre National d' Etudes Spatiales) oceanography mission. OSTM/Jason-2 will extend the time series of ocean surface topography measurements begun by TOPEX/Poseidon and Jason-1 to accomplish two decades of observations. It will determine the variability of ocean circulation at decadal time scales from combined data records with T/P and Jason; and improve the measurement of time-averaged ocean circulation, global sea-level change, and open ocean tide models.
