Seismic activity at Redoubt remains at low levels. Clear satellite views showed no evidence of activity all week. AVO received no reports of steaming or other activity.
Seismic activity at Redoubt has been at a low level throughout the week. Nothing unusual was observed in clear views of the volcano by satellite this week. A few minor steam plumes in the vicinity of the summit were observed earlier in the week but are not considered unusual.
Seismic activity remained at low levels all week. Occasional clear satellite views showed nothing unusual. No reports of unusual activity were received.
Seismic activity remains at low levels. A short-lived steam cloud, rising no higher than the volcano's summit, was reported on December 16 by an observer in Kenai, 82 km (51 mi) east of the volcano. Clear satellite views on December 12-16 showed nothing unusual. Clouds have obscured views by satellite since December 16. AVO will continue to monitor the volcano closely.
Seismic activity remains at low levels. Mostly clear to partly cloudy satellite views on December 7 and 12 showed nothing unusual. AVO has received no other reports about Redoubt over the last week.
Seismic activity remains at low levels. Clouds have obscured satellite views for most of the week. No reports of unusual activity. Fieldwork scheduled for this week was delayed because of poor weather.
Seismic activity this week remained at low levels. Satellite views of the volcano were clear to partly cloudy with no activity observed. Installation of additional geophysical monitoring equipment on the volcano was hampered by poor weather this week.
Seismic activity this week remained at low levels. Satellite views of the volcano were clear to partly cloudy with no activity observed. AVO staff made observations and began work to install additional geophysical equipment and a web camera on the volcano last weekend. New FLIR thermal-infrared camera images from last Friday document elevated temperatures in the areas of bare rock and disrupted ice near the summit crater and in a collapse hole within the Drift Glacier. Closer inspection of the summit fumaroles was not possible due to poor weather.
On Wednesday, November 5, 2008, AVO raised the Aviation Color Code to YELLOW and the Volcano Alert Level to ADVISORY owing to the several month long detection of potentially significant changes in gas emission and heat output from Redoubt Volcano. These changes are a departure from long-observed background activity. The remainder of the week seismic activity remained at low levels and satellite views of the volcano were partly cloudy with no activity observed. AVO staff began work to install additional geophysical equipment and a web camera on the volcano.
Over the past several months, AVO has detected potentially significant changes in gas emission and heat output from Redoubt Volcano. These changes are a departure from long-observed background activity, and therefore, AVO is raising the Aviation Color Code to YELLOW and the Volcano Alert Level to ADVISORY. There is no indication that an eruption is imminent or even certain. AVO is monitoring Redoubt closely and is making plans to install additional equipment on the volcano in the next several weeks.
