Wyoming Film/Arts Update:

Wyoming Short Film Contest
An annual event with a grand prize of $25,000, the Wyoming Short Film Contest offers filmmakers an excellent reason to shoot the Cowboy State. The only requirement for entrants is that the film take place in Wyoming, feature Wyoming, or present Wyoming as a major character in the storyline. Launching each year in January at the Sundance Film Festival, a winner is announced late in May. For more information and to view past winners, visit our blog at www.filmwyoming.blogspot.com.

Culture Guide Combined with Scenic Byways
As of 2009, the Wyoming Cultural Guide and the Wyoming Scenic Byways and Backways brochure will join to highlight culture and heritage along Wyoming’s spectacular routes.  Past Cultural Guide participants can still reach millions of Wyoming travelers on the newly redesigned tourism web site at www.wyomingtourism.org.  Contact Judy Johnson for information about adding your listing at judy.johnson@visitwyo.gov.

The Film Industry Financial Incentive (FIFI) program provides a cash rebate for production companies of up to 15 percent on dollars spent in the State of Wyoming. The production company must spend a minimum amount to qualify and then meet additional criteria to determine the rebate percentage between 12% - 15%.
Qualified expenditures generally include, but are not limited to:

  • Wages, salaries, or other compensation for technical and production crews, directors, producers, performers and extras who are residents of this state.
  • Expenditures on goods and services in Wyoming for preproduction, production, post-production, digital media effects services, rental equipment, meals, lodging, sets, and set construction.

Rebate percentage between 12% and 15% based on the following criteria:

  • Wyoming storyline (full 15% rebate)
  • Behind the scenes footage highlighting Wyoming locations (up to 14% rebate)
  • Wyoming props and product placement (up to 13% rebate)
  • Filmed in Wyoming credit (minimum 12% rebate)
  • Other promotional opportunities that provide Wyoming tourism value could be negotiated to determine rebate percentage.

Call for Locations
The Wyoming Film Office is calling for photos of potential filming locations throughout the state. We're updating our film office web site at www.filmwyoming.com with hundreds of new images and we need your help. We're looking for any interesting locations that could be used by a production company for feature films, television specials and commercials. We need to have contact information for each location. For example, if the location is privately owned we need the owners contact information including address, directions, phone number, etc. If the location is on public land, we need to know which agency to contact for permitting, i.e. BLM, Forest Service, State Lands, etc.
Please send ALL location images, prints or digital, to Colin Stricklin at info@filmwyoming.com or mail them to:
