VRE has increased
security as a result of recent events overseas. While no threat has
been directed against VRE, the security presence at our platforms and
yards has been stepped up. Over the last several years, we have implemented
and strengthened many programs to ensure that your commute is safer.
In addition, we continue to coordinate with CSX and Norfolk Southern,
our host railroads, on the security of their tracks.
What VRE Has Done:
What Our Passengers Can Do:
Keep track of your belongings on the train and remember
to take them with you when you leave the train. Not only will this solve
a potential security problem, but it will also save you time and effort
later as you try to retrieve it.
In the metro Washington community, VRE passengers are some of the most
aware, educated, and sensitive transit passengers in the United States.
You are the eyes and ears of our system. If in the course of your commute
you experience something that “isn’t quite right,”
please notify your conductor immediately. Your conductor is the authority
on the train and is in the best position to deal with issues on board
the train. If your concern involves a platform or parking lot, first
notify the police at 911 then call the VRE office at (703) 684-1001.
Your safety is always our top priority. Together we will continue to
keep your commute stress free and safe!
