Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans appears to possess no fewer than 54 transfer RNA genes as determined by the tRNAscan-SE 1.1 program of T.M. Lowe and S.R. Eddy
(Nucl. Acids Res. 25: 955-964,1997). These tRNAs are potentially modified by a minimum of 8 enzymes and charged by at least 21 aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases.
In addition to the usual set of tRNAs, Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans contains a selenocysteine inserting tRNA. Selenocysteine inserting tRNAs require SelA, SelB and SelD for
cotranslational insertion of selenocysteine into the peptide chain. All three of these genes have been identified in this genome.
