NCPTT hosted a two-day symposium sponsored by the Cane River Creole National
Historical Park in celebration of Black History month on February 15-16, 2006.
Students, faculty, and community members gathered from around the area to hear
notable scholars address a diverse range of topics related to the regionÕs
African-American cultural history. Presentations included Dr. Janis Hutchinson
(U of Houston) on African-American Oral Remembrances in Natchitoches, Tommy
Whitehead (NSU) on Clementine Hunter, and Dr. Caryn Crosse Bell (U Mass Lowell)
on Toward Universalism in African-American Culture, and several others.
