Rural Policy Organizer and/or Rural Online Organizer & Writer

The Center for Rural Affairs of Lyons, NE is seeking two individuals to engage in grassroots organizing, online organizing and policy advocacy to build a better future for rural America.

Both positions will address federal rural policy, entrepreneurial rural development, and especially federal health care reform. Health care reform is crucial for family farmers and ranchers, rural small business owners and rural development that supports asset building for low-income individuals. 

Responsibilities will be focused on organizing and motivating rural people to act on behalf of federal legislation that supports our objectives. The range of organizing approaches will include grassroots meetings, grassroots leadership development, mobilizing response to action alerts, nationwide online organizing, and other means.

 


 

Internship Program

Every year three to four interns work with the Center for Rural Affairs. Interns are accepted throughout the year and as opportunities, funding sources and good matches between applicants and projects arise. Interns can work on policy, organizing, communications or direct service projects. Recent interns have: 
  • Worked with our organizing staff to help build our national, grassroots, activist base
  • Worked with our direct service staff on wind energy development in Nebraska
  • Worked with our communication and development staff to update our media contacts and undertake a fundraising project
  • Worked with our website staff on website development and online action alerts

Executive Director, The Biodynamic Farming and Gardening Association

The Biodynamic Farming and Gardening Association is a non-profit organization working to nurture the Biodynamic movement in North America through education, research and development. Founded in 1938, BDFGA has published books and other publications on biodynamic agriculture and organizes workshops and conferences.

BDFGA is a membership organization and publishes a quarterly journal. BDFGA programs are currently focused on expanding the public's knowledge of biodynamic agriculture, educating current and future practitioners/students/apprentices to build more biodynamic agriculture practices in North America, promoting the use of biodynamic preparations and seeds, and promoting the concept of a whole farm approach. Recognizing the limitations as a national organization our goal is to not only facilitate better collaboration between the BDFGA and the existing regional groups in North America but to assist in their growth.

SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Executive Director of BDFGA is a full time, professional staff person whose primary responsibility is to provide leadership, and to manage the operation and growth of the Association. the organization believes it is "our responsibility is to be a unifying voice for the biodynamic movement," and the ED is the "face" of the organization.

The Executive Director is accountable to the Board of Directors and is responsible for carrying out board-approved goals and objectives; facilitating the work of staff and contractors; and operating the organization within the board-approved budget. The Executive Director has primary responsibility for program development, fundraising, communications and financial management.

LOCATION: Junction City, Oregon. COMPENSATION: Starting salary range $45,000-$55,000, depending on experience.

Micah Corps Young Adult 2009 Summer Internship, Risk-taking Mission and Justice Work Team of the Nebraska United Methodist Conference

Young Adult 2009 Summer Internships are available for up to six to participate in the first ever Nebraska United Methodist Confernce Micah Corps.

This internship is available to those young Nebraska United Methodists high school aged to 25 with a sense of adventure and seeking to build relationships with other energetic young Christians. With this internship, you'll have the opportunity to sharpen leadership skills, deepen you spiritual life, and learn from Nebraska advocacy experts about rural children, poverty, and immigation. This isn't to mention the $2,000 stipend and provided room and board. The application deadline is March 16, 2009 with selections announced on April 1, 2009.
