There are numerous sources of information about legumes, taxonomic databases, and taxonomy in general on the Internet. Links to a few of these web pages are given below. If you are involved in a project which you think might be of interest to ILDIS users, please let the Secretariat know.
Flora Europaea |
International Organisation for Plant Information |
The University of Reading Herbarium |
Species 2000 |
Taxonomic Databases Working Group |
W3 Tropicos |
Flora Europaea: you can examine information on legumes contained in the Flora Europaea (ESFEDS) database by following the direct species links contained within ILDIS. Just click on the link at the bottom of the page of information about any species in the ILDIS database (NB there will only be links for species which are found in Europe!) Alternatively click on the link above to search the main database or find out more information about the project.
International Organisation for Plant Information (IOPI): IOPI manages a series of cooperative international projects that aim to create databases of plant taxonomic information. Their web site contains information about numerous plant database projects and a searchable database with nomenclatoral information about many plant species.
Reading (RNG) Herbarium: collection information for many of the recent specimens contained in the herbarium at The University of Reading (UK) is available from their web site. Information on legumes in the Moroccan collection is linked directly to the same species in ILDIS (just click on a link at the bottom of the page of information about a species).
Species 2000: indexing the world's known species. This project aims to create a virtual index of all known species by linking global species databases together. Global species databases contain a list of the world's species within a particular taxon - so ILDIS is a global species database for legumes, and will be used in this way in the Species 2000 project.
Taxonomic Databases Working Group (TDWG): this is an international organisation which seeks to develop and promote the use of data standards within biological projects, and to facilitate data exchange. The web site contains information about TDWG standards, and details of the next TDWG workshop from 29-31 October 1999, at Harvard University, USA.
W3 Tropicos: Tropicos is a nomenclatoral database held at Missouri Botanical Gardens. Legume information can be examined by following the direct species links contained within ILDIS. Just click on the link at the bottom of the page of information about any species in the ILDIS database. Alternatively click on the link above to search the database or find out more information about the project.
