Land Link Services

Beginning farmers can succeed with encouragement, financial support, and sound planning. But the most critical ingredient is involvement of retiring farmers and ranchers with the next generation.

The Center's Land Link program serves to increase opportunities for beginning farmers while encouraging good stewardship. Computer data base matching and consulting services bring beginning farmers and landowners together. Retirement planning, beginning farmer financing, farm business, and environmental assessment information is used to assist in transferring family operations to a new generation of farmers and ranchers.

Linking Procedure

Start by obtaining a clearinghouse questionnaire. Questionnaires for prospective beginners and for landowners are available below in pdf format or by contacting the Center, info@cfra.org.

If you are a beginning farmer or rancher: Land Link matches your interests with the farms and ranches in our data base. You will receive a description of those farms along with the landowner's name and address. You can then contact the landowner directly. As new opportunities arise, they will be sent to you. We ask that you notify us when you no longer need our services. You can download the form you need (Adobe Acrobat Reader required.)

If you are a landowner: Land Link matches the characteristics of your farm or ranch with the interests of the beginners in our data base. After we review your farm or ranch description with you, a copy goes to beginning farmers or ranches that match those interests. You receive a copy of their names and addresses as well. You can download the form you need (Adobe Acrobat Reader required.)

We ask the beginners to contact you directly if the description sounds like what they are looking for. Your description continues to go out to new beginning farmers and ranchers as they contact us. We ask that you let us know when our services are no longer needed.

When your interests coincide: Once you have found someone to work with, Land Link staff provides examples of other successful matches, and makes suggestions and referrals based on your unique circumstances.

There is an initial charge of $20.00 to become part of the Land Link Clearinghouse data base.
